Phuket & Samui hotel deals- March 17, 2011

Thailand hotel deals

Below are this week’s latest hotel discount deals on Phuket and Ko Samui hotels.

Though this week has been unseasonably cool in Bangkok, we are heading into the hottest time of year. If you are heading to Thailand for the Songkran festival next month, you may be interested in the post I wrote earlier this week listing 17 Five Star hotels in Bangkok for under USD 100 during the Songkran.

There are some great hotel deals this week, especially in Samui with 50% off the Kirikayan Luxury Pool Villas and Buddy Oriental Samui, both four star hotels.

Some offers at some hotels have a minimum stay requirement, which I have listed next to the price. For such hotels, the promotional rate will be displayed once you have selected dates that cover the minimum number of nights required.

iphone sized wallpaper for February 2011As promised last month, I did some traveling over the holiday season and sought out some great locations to take new pics for this year’s desktop calendar wallpapers.

February’s theme is a beautiful sunset over Siray Bay in Phuket, taken from the lobby of the new Westin Siray Bay. If you look carefully you can see the giant Buddha on the hilltop across the bay, though it doesn’t look so big  from such a  distance.

This week’s Phuket and Samui hotel deals- Jan 19th 2011

Over 50% off at Sala Phuket Resort

Thailand hotel deals

Below are this week’s newest discount deals on Phuket and Samui hotels.

The best deal by far is at the stunning Sala Phuket at Mai Khao on Phuket, with over 50% off rates for their Deluxe Balcony rooms. Sala Phuket also has many private pool villas that are quite large, not the oversize bathtubs that some places try to pass off as pools.

If you are not familiar with Mai Khao, it is on the North-western coast of Phuket, and is 18 kilometers of uninterrupted beautiful clean beach, far away from all the tourists of the more populated areas like Patong. The beaches here are truly deserted- a must see if you like your privacy.

Taking requests for Thailand hotel reviews

Bangkok and Phuket

During December and January I will be traveling around Bangkok and Phuket, visiting a number of 5 star hotels, taking photos, and getting enough material to write some reviews and hopefully provide some useful information for readers of this blog.

I’ve got some pretty nice hotels lined up, so you can look forward to some great new material in the New Year, but please let me know if there is a particular hotel or resort in Bangkok or Phuket that you would like to know more about.

If I can fit it into my schedule I will arrange to visit the hotels that readers mention in the comments below and report back here.

So let me know in the comments below by the end of the month which hotels in Bangkok or Phuket you would like me to visit and take photos of.

9 Five star Phuket resorts under USD142 in January 2011

(And even two under USD100 a night)

Phuket is probably the most popular destination in all of Thailand, and January is the busiest time. With many people escaping the northern winter and taking advantage of the Christmas/New Year break, many hotels and resorts can (and do) get away with charging just about anything for a night in a luxurious 5 star resort.

The good news is I have tracked down nine resorts on the island of Phuket that, if you are willing to wait a couple of weeks, can provide you with some 5 star relief.

Peak Season

As with last month’s post highlighting five star hotels in Bangkok for under USD100, I would like to be totally transparent regarding the dates that these rates are available.

With the beginning of January being the absolute peak of the peak season, it is pretty much impossible to get a five star room in Phuket for around 100 a night during the first two weeks.

After a bit of digging, it seems that Sunday January 16th seems to be the date when rates at most hotels in Phuket drop off from their highest level. With that in mind, the following dates are all for stays commencing on Sunday 16th January 2011, and are good for dates after that as well. Anything earlier than that and you can expect to pay a considerable amount more for your 5 star Phuket vacation.
